JUBILEES

Yes, in October Inegen’s school in Ongudai district completed the hundredth year of its existence. The village being remote from the principal highways did not hamper making the school celebration a memorable event not only for those who used to attend the school - all in the republic were able to see dances, listen to celebration poems and songs... The celebration was taped and shown on the republic TV

Also 100!

Late in October another school observed its centenary - that of Turachak. Most of the villagers had gone to the school that celebrated its Judilee and, of course, many of them were among those who had taken part in the preparations and received guests, who came to live now outside the boundaries of the district. Each form is responsible for gathering the materials about each of the post-war graduations. Exhibitions, concerts, stories about the past and present of the school, meetings of people of different generations - such was the programme of the celebration.

We Are Going to Read “Pionerskaia Pravda”.

A brigade from “Pionerskaia Pravda” for several days worked in the republic. Special correspondents of this newspaper visited Ust-Kan, Ongudai, Shebalinsky, Maima, Turachak, Choia districts and the republic centre, looked in schools and out-of-school establishments, talked to children about their life, problems, and successes.
We are looking forward to seeing the number of the newspaper dedicated to the children of the republic.

And one more interesting piece of information related to this event. In January 1998 all schools of the republic are beginning to receive the “Pionerskaya Pravda” - the republic committee of education and science has seen to it.
The editorial board of “Echo of Azure Altai” are glad for all children: now every schoolboy and girl in the republic can read bright and interesting “Pionerka”!

Home and People.

We promised to publish pictures from the latest republic children’s exhibition and to tell about them.
Entering the exhibition hall you could not help seeing a model of a house. Its commonness distinguished it fram a fairy-tale one - there are many such houses in every village. There was a permanent crowd of children and grown-ups standing at the house exhibit.jpg (20343 bytes)and looking in. The builders of the house had foreseen such curiosity. They made the house with one wall transparent - so that you coud see everything well. And there was all sorts of thing you might want to look at: the host and hostess, their children, furnishings and utencils, children’s toys and, that touched many, wisps of medicinal herbs, stored by the inhabitants for winter.
The house is made of squared timber (prepared exclusively for this building), the roof is of wood. The pediment and windows are decorated with wooden patterns. The inner furnishings are the match : a carved craddle, nice little shelves, a small chest indispensable from a village home... The peoples’ clothings, adornments of the beds embroidered napkins and coverlets, all that is produce of woman’s work, were in accordance with the known standards.
The exhibit was executed by pupils of the school of the village of Ust-Muny of Maima district. Sasha Kozlov, Vasia Soloviev, Sergei Shakhantaiev, Denis Strekalov put up the house, made a “Golden Porch”, made the furniture, in one word did all the wooden and metal work; Oksana Fefelova and Irina Solovieva created the comfort and the inhabitants - puppets.
And in the new house the people began their life. Long and happy.
